If you’re on an offshore oil rig or vessel and something goes wrong, you’ll want to get off as quickly as possible. And in the event of an emergency, lifeboats are the primary method of evacuation.
Although we’d all rather lifeboats go unused, they need to be in tip-top shape in case they’re needed. Survival craft must be maintained, repaired, and tested by competent personnel. And that goes for lifeboats installed on offshore drilling rigs, fixed and floating offshore platforms, and vessels.
And all personnel need to be familiar with inspection, maintenance, and training regulations and requirements, so they can operate the lifeboats on their installation with safety and confidence.
This training will explain the basic procedures for inspecting and maintaining lifeboats, davits, winches, and hooks in an offshore environment. In addition, this program will guide you through the weekly inspection and maintenance process, as well as the quarterly maintenance recommended by the lifeboat OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer).
Also, after completing the course, students will understand the regulatory and manufacturer’s requirements for conducting lifeboat inspections. Students will further be able to identify lifeboat equipment and launching appliances that require scheduled inspections. And they will understand what periodic preventative interval is required by the crew and/or Approved Service Provider.
Students will also be able to determine the required processes to perform an approved alternative launch drill. Lastly, and most importantly, they will understand the importance of maintaining the lifeboat in an operational readiness condition at all times.
