In most emergency situations, the lifeboat is the primary means of escape from an offshore installation or vessel. And since emergencies are unpredictable, the lifeboat captain could be injured or missing, and other crew may have to fill in. That’s why all personnel should be trained to operate lifeboats to ensure an orderly, panic-free abandonment.
After completing this course, students will be able to identify different types of lifeboats and davits, and determine their launching procedures. They will also understand the process of mustering, conducting drills, and preparing to launch in an emergency. And lastly, students will be able to safely demonstrate the launching and retrieval of the lifeboat.
