In an emergency, the lifeboat is the preferred method of evacuating an offshore installation, platform, or drilling rig. It is important that the lifeboat crew is experienced and trained in the operation and navigation of the lifeboat that is specific to their installation. The handling characteristics of lifeboats can vary, depending on manufacturer, design, and size.
This program will review some basic seamanship practices that should be considered when operating lifeboats. And student will learn techniques for clearing the installation, methods for assisting other evacuees, seamanship and navigational maneuvers for different sea states.
Additionally, procedures for helicopter rescues and how to safely transfer from vessel to vessel are also included.
